How to Talk Better on Camera

Video is must tool for real estate agents. It helps you build the brand of you and connect with buyers and sellers before you even meet. But many agents struggle to sound natural on camera. They feel stiff, robotic, or different from how they are in person.

If that sounds like you, here’s how to fix it.

1️⃣ Talking to a Camera Is a Skill

You’re great at speaking in person, but your video feels different. That’s normal, It takes practice, just like learning to close deals. The more you do it, the easier it gets.

2️⃣ Don’t Script Like You’re Writing, Script Like You Talk

Your goal is to build trust and connection, just like you do in person. Instead of talking at the camera, imagine you’re speaking directly to a potential buyer or seller sitting across from you.

“Welcome to this beautiful property at bla bla bla Street. Today, I will bore you with the land size and rattle off its features.” (Sounds stiff.)

“Hey, I’m standing in a home that is something special. Let me show you.”.......... (Feels real.)

If you wouldn’t say it to a client, don’t say it on camera.

3️⃣ Find Your Natural Voice

Not sure how you sound in real life? Try this:

  • Talk to your colleague/partner/friend
  • Spend five minutes talking to them about your latest listing (don't sell just talk to them)
  • Record the conversation with your phone and transcribe it.
  • Read your text transcription

That’s your natural speaking style. Use that tone in your videos it will feel and look more like you and look far more confidant, helping boost others confidence in you and your brand of you.

4️⃣ More Rehearsal = More Confidence

Some think practicing makes them sound fake. It’s the opposite. The more you rehearse, the smoother you sound. It’s like knowing your listing presentation by heart. When you know what you’re saying, you sound relaxed.

5️⃣ Talk to One Person, Not Everyone

Video should feel like a one-on-one chat. Instead of saying “Hey everyone,” speak directly to one buyer or seller.

“Hey everyone, let’s talk about the market.”“Thinking about selling? Here’s what you need to know.”

Final Tip

Be yourself. Keep it simple. Talk like you’re chatting with a client. Do that, and your videos will feel natural and real.
